How is this differ from adjusting volume of sub on the back?
No difference. But I prefer to do it on receiver when I have set the sub properly. Firstly , don't have to run to the sub and tune the knob , then run back to the listening position to see the SPL meter . Secondly , sub volumn is quite sensitive whereas receiver can adjust bit by bit . Thirdly , it is more preferred to send a higher volumn from the receiver so that the sub can activate and sense correctly even at little bass movies.
