In the last couple months I tried to sell all my gears. After the spk and TT and some acessories gone, I broken my leg in a bicycle accident and now stay home for recovery. I wish to start all over again, it is too bore to stay home without music.

New system base on the existing amp, ASR. I always thought I could use some warmer sound, my last spk was accurate and powerful but indeed lack some "lush", so i search for something warm and sweet. I like to try tannoy but I end up bought the FA FS688(small size, easy to handle), and I read about an article saying that someone in taiwan match the ASR with FA with good result, so I try. To make the sound even warmer, I also bought myself a Linn LP12, THE turntable, for my LP collection. Very comfortable sound, feel good even at extremely low sound level. Happy.

There are many things have to be done, install the lovely schroder tunearm, reset the TT after new phono arrives , may be getting a new cartridge too....testing spk cable...etc. fun.

It's great to hear that you have decided coming back to the music world again despite you had sold some of your ex-lovely gears.



Take your time to fine tune your gears, looking for better matching as well as full-recovery of your powerful leg.

raymond my right leg is still powerful(getting stronger, cos it is the only leg I could use at the moment, get enough practice) but my left leg needs some excrise badly

I tried these on CD5 years before:

1:isoclean Isotip, smoother, if my memory is correct, a bit dull.
2:Taoc25pin, 46 pin, both sound leaner, bass sounded too tight, and, I not sure, thinner sound;
3:Harmonix black spike: more airy sound, seems a bit better high resolution, but the sound is not as lively as the original Naim sound, if you know what I mean, and lesser "body", comfortable but not as musical.

You have to to know what suits you most. Some insist add nothing under it, a matter of taste.

LP12 ... I am loving it ....

After 14months of ordering, and stored in my home for another 12 months, I finally mount my Schroder Model 2 on my TT. My new TT is a Lp12 which replaces the AS final tool.

We often hear some good things about LP12. A TT designed in 70's, impossible to sound good for modern standard you suspect. I too suspected the same from day one. But I did hear a LP12 sounded fantastic while playing female vocal, why not? I told myself, i am not going to play "dark side of the moon" or "1812" loudly anyway. Sweet and warm could be nice for children songs. A lp12 on ebay was then bidded and in my home now.

Mounting the Model 2 on this lp12 was easy. The armboard was for rega arm originally, same hole could be used for mounting model 2, all i have to do is to drill a couple screw holes for the mounting srews of the model two. 15mins job.

Tuning a LP12, however, is the difficult job. Rumor says experienced users with correct tools and skills will be able to tune the three spring to a condition that the TT will only bounce vertically but not horizontally(The LP12 is a three springs floating suspension TT, in case you don't know). I can only say with the springs on my deck this is merely IMPOSSIBLE. Of course, I have no doubt skilled technician could actually make that happen, but certainly not a two weeks owner of the deck. I ordered a set of spring and will try again when the set arrived.(anyone ever sucessfully make that happened? please advice)

Initial listening is very very impressive(not even tuned correctly). The combo produces relax and natural sound with adequate sweet and full body mid range. LP12 and Model 2 don't provide you the kind of attack that a modern TT would provide, but the bass is just there, and dives deeply. The sound is "coherent" and "as a whole", soundstage is wide, but not "huge", in fact I am quite satisfy due to the present setup of my system is far from perfect.
